Boyd H. Tipton, 88, of Kingsport went to his heavenly home on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Life Care Center of Gray.
He was born in Mitchell County, NC. After high school Boyd moved to the Tri-Cities area where he began his career, met his wife of 67 years, and started his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all who knew him.
Boyd is preceded in death by his parents, George and Bessie Tipton; brothers, Cecil Tipton, Willie Tipton, and Clyde Tipton; sisters, Estelle Peterson and Mary Kilgore; and son-in-law, Mike Gamble.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Betty Shirley Tipton; daughters, Susan Gamble, Patricia Johnston, Janet Clark and husband David; grandchildren, Matthew Gamble and wife Jordan, Sherra Johnston, Andrew Clark and wife Katie, and Lindsay Johnston; great granddaughters, Lilly Clark, Taylor Gamble, Annie Clark, and Eliza Clark; sister, Anne Tipton; and lots of beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Carter Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, from 4pm to 6pm. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Robert Burlingham officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 10 am in the mausoleum Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton. Those wishing to attend are to meet at the cemetery at 9:45am.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Colonial Heights United Methodist Church in Kingsport.
