Bob G. Carter, 88, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was born September 21, 1930 in St. Charles, VA, son of the late Elbert & Eunice Edmonds Carter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Charlotte Cates Carter and a brother, Samuel Carter. He graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1947. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of West Side Christian Church in Elizabethton. He was an advertising executive for many years with the Elizabethton Star and Johnson City Press, later becoming the publisher of the Avery Journal Newspaper in Newland, NC. He was a former Chief of the Hampton, Tn. Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by daughters: Sandra Fair and Jane Thompson; Sons: John & Dennis Carter; a sister: Fay Brown: six grandchildren: and two great-grandsons.
A graveside service and Interment will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 with Dr. Greg Key officiating. Active Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Graham and Gavin Fair, Chase Thompson, Bobby & Jack Carter and Nicholas Leach. Those who plan to attend should arrive at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m. Thursday.
