Janice Delores Gentry

Janice Delores Pierce Gentry, 82, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Raymond E. & Edell Minton Pierce. She was a graduate of Unaka High School. Prior to her retirement she was employed at Valley Forge Elementary School and Big K. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister: Peggy Williams and a brother: Donald Pierce. She was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church but attended Horseshoe Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years Cameron “Buck” Gentry. Her Children: Vickie Diane Bennett, Randal Lewis & wife Kimberly, David Gentry and Curtis Gentry & wife Desie all of Elizabethton. Six Grandchildren: Robbie Bowers, Ryan Bowers, Chad Lewis, Andrea Lewis, Brook Thompson and Blake Gentry. Seven Great Grandchildren. Three Sisters: Rita Elaine Jenkins and Sandra Kay Richardson both of Elizabethton and Debra Ann Blevins, Johnson City. Two Brothers: Raymond Lowell Pierce, Elizabethton and Gary Pierce, Bristol, Tn. Several nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2021 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be: Robbie Bowers, Ryan Bowers, Chad Lewis, Andrea Lewis, Brook Thompson, Blake Gentry, Chris Russell, Justin Thompson and Shane Hill. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Johnson City Medical Center for the excellent care she received during her stay there. The family would also like to thank our sister, Vickie Bennett for the loved and excellent care she gave to our mother. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Janice to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605-4255. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
