Johnnie Mae Ogle Rose, of Knoxville, TN and formerly of Kingsport and Elizabethton, TN, passed away peacefully at home on August 15, 2018 at the age of 86. Johnnie Mae was born to Frederick E. and Stella Parsons Ogle in Elizabethton and resided there until her graduation from Elizabethton High School in 1949. She obtained her B.S. Degree in Biology and minor in Chemistry from Tennessee Tech University in 1953. In 1961, she moved to Kingsport, where she and her husband of over 30 years, Clay M. Rose, Jr., raised their children. She was a life-long learner, lover of history, genealogy and books, which she passed on to many throughout her teaching career. A member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church for many years, Mrs. Rose served in many capacities, including Children’s Sunday School teacher, and was vital in establishing the church library there. In 1997, she moved to Knoxville, TN and was a member of First Baptist and later West Hills Baptist Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother, teacher, and servant of Christ.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Mrs. Rose was also preceded in death by her sister, Anne O. Graves. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her son, Frederick M. Rose; daughter Laura E. Gross and husband Harry; grandchildren, John, Katherine and Will Gross; brother, Fred Ogle of Gig Harbor, WA; brother-in-law, Richard Countzler of Greenville, KY; nieces and nephews, Tom Ogle, Kim Legg, Julie Wright, Brad Graves, John Countzler and Anne McKnight.
The family will Receive Friends on Friday, August 24th from 5:00-6:45pm at Rose Mann Heritage Chapel, 6200 Kingston Pike, Knoxville. A Service of Remembrance and Resurrection will follow at 7:00pm. Family and Friends will meet at Happy Valley Cemetery on Elizabethton Highway in Johnson City, TN on Saturday, August 25th at 3:00pm for a Graveside Service. Memorials may be made to West Hills Baptist Church, Knoxville or Colonial Heights Baptist Church Library, Kingsport. Online condolences may be extended at www.rosemortuary.com
