I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith:
Aleta Smalling Hendrix, a devoted and loving mother & grandmother, age 100 went home to be with her Lord, Friday, June 24, 2016 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Born November 21, 1915 in Carter County to the late Ed & Sallie Williams Smalling. Mrs. Hendrix was a 1933 graduate of Happy Valley High School and attended Steed College. She was a retired Secretary & Bookkeeper. Mrs. Hendrix was the oldest living member of Central Community Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years: Leon Hendrix who passed away February 13, 1996. She was also preceded in death by a daughter: Joyce Hendrix, two grandsons: Infant Orr and Todd McKeehan, her Infant great granddaughter, a brother: James Smalling in April 2016 and a sister: Hattie Ruth Whidden in May 2016.
Survivors include her children: Phyllis Orr and husband John, Roan Mountain, Judy Clark and husband Bob, Jane McKeehan and husband Tony and Jerry Hendrix and wife Eileen all of Johnson City and Wayne Hendrix and wife Lisa, Richmond, Virginia. 13 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren with another due in November, and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. Several nieces & nephews also survive.
A Service to Celebrate the life of Aleta Hendrix will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2016 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Todd Wolfe and Mr. Ken Overdorf Ministers officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Todd & Susie Wolfe. Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be her church family. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Dr. Guy Robins, Dr. Shoba and Dr. John Johnson. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Hendrix to the Building Fund, Central Community Christian Church, and 137 Hopson Road, Johnson City, Tenn. 37601.
