Mrs. Betty Grindstaff, 83, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at her home. She was a daughter of the late Sam and Elma Egli Hall, and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Ray Hall, a sister, Helen Sutphin and a nephew, Gene Sutphin.

Betty was a graduate of Unaka High School Class of 1950 where she enjoyed playing basketball. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and had formerly taught the Intermediate Girls at Stoney Creek Baptist Church for thirty years. She loved to grow flowers, quilt and decorate her home and was a big lady Vols fan.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her loving husband of sixty years, Richard “Dick” Grindstaff, of the home; a sister-in-law, Mary Lillian Grindstaff; Elizabethton; and the many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews to whom she contributed love and time to their “raising”.

A graveside service for Mrs. Grindstaff will be conducted on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Travis Tyler officiating. Active pallbearers will be nephews, James Grindstaff, Carl Wayne Grindstaff, David Grindstaff, Andy Hall, Jeremy Grindstaff, Sam Sutphin, as well as her nieces, Stephanie Rainey and Linda Swanay. Honorary pallbearers will be her friends at First United Methodist Church and Grace Baptist Church. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the cemetery at 2:50 PM on Wednesday.

Friends may call at the home at any time or at the home of her niece, Teresa Grindstaff.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the church of their choice.
