Betty L. Tipton, 85, of Kingsport went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Wellmont Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Boyd H. Tipton; her parents, John and Mayme Shirley; brothers, John Shirley, Jr., Bill Shirley, Ralph Shirley, and Ed Shirley and wife Barbara; sister, Jackie Staten and husband Lester; and son-in-law, Mike Gamble.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Susan Gamble, Patricia Johnston, Janet Clark and husband David; grandchildren, Matthew Gamble and wife Jordan, Sherra Johnston, Andrew Clark and wife Katie, and Lindsay Johnston; great granddaughters, Lilly Clark, Taylor Gamble, Annie Clark, and Eliza Clark; sister, Nancy Wright and husband Lester; sisters in-law, Anne Tipton, Marie Shirley, and Emily Shirley; sisters by choice, Tip Cloud, Betty Jordan, and Brenda Neas; and lots of beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Carter Trent Funeral Home, Downtown Kingsport, from 1pm to 3pm. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Robert Burlingham officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 11 am in the mausoleum at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton. Those wishing to attend are to meet at the cemetery at 10:45am.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, TN.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Wellmont Hospice House and special nurses Heather Ball and Melissa Scheurer.
