Bill Whisnant, age 63, of the Dennis Cove Community in Hampton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord following a brief illness on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Bill was born in Carter County to the late William Vance Whisnant, Sr. and Ruby Lee Johnson Whisnant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jani Starr Whisnant and Sue Calhoun.

Bill was a United States Air Force veteran, having served in the Vietnam Era before being honorably discharged after 4 years of service. He retired from the Elizabethton Postal service and was of the Free Will Baptist faith. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Those left to cherish his memories are his children, William Chad Whisnant and wife Hillary, of Hampton and Destiny Elizabeth Whisnant, of Roan Mountain; one granddaughter, Dezaray Whisnant; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Bill Whisnant will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 1, 2018 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Minister Chris McCoury officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday or at the residence of his daughter or son, at other times.

The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Chad Whisnant, J.D. Calhoun, Woody Whisenhunt, Doc Campbell, Wayne Johnson and Randy Gosnell. Tony Crowe will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the ICU Unit at Sycamore Shoals Hospital for the love and care shown to Bill and his family during his illness.
