Junior Jones, 85, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016 in the Hermitage Health Center after a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Arthur & Nanny Frye Jones. Junior served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He operated a Pool Room in Elizabethton for several years. He was a member of the High Point Baptist Church, Roan Mountain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Johnson Jones, October 23, 2001, by a brother: Bill Jones and two sisters: Ruth Hill and Iva Bennett.
Survivors include his children: Barbara Teel, Elizabethton and Tony Jones and wife Juliet, Roswell, Georgia. Two Grandsons: Jesse & Chris Teel and a granddaughter: Tonya Jones, a great granddaughter: Katielyn Hallman. Several Nieces & Nephews. A very special friend: Herman Lyons.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Allen Johnson officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday will be: Todd Jones, John Campbell, Richard “Jar fly” Dugger, Dean Ritchie, Scott Ritchie and Allen Ritchie. Honorary Pallbearers will be: His many friends in Elizabethton and Johnson City including his best friend Herman Lyons. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 or woundedwarriorproject.org. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
