Carroll Glen “Shorty” Wiseman, 71, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the Ivy Hall Nursing Home.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Ben Hayden and Rosa Vera Ward Wiseman. Shorty served in the National Guard for six years. He was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation for 28 years. He was the Maintenance Supervisor for the Carter County Courthouse until he retired in 2006.
Shorty was a faithful member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church for 47 years. He was a former Trustee and a member of the Adult Choir, where he sang bass. He was responsible for placing the Cross on the roof of the older part of the church in 1968. He was a Christian who not only talked the talk but walked the walk and greeted everyone with a smile.
He was a devoted husband who cherished his wife, Linda, and loved his children and grandchildren. Even when he had Alzheimer’s and didn’t recognize his wife, he knew the Lord and still prayed and sung all four verses of “Amazing Grace.” He loved the Lord with all his heart. At 2 a.m. o’clock in the morning I would find him on his knees in the bathroom praying.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents: Paul & Grace Ward; His Paternal Grandparents: Ben Hayden & Victoria Wiseman; One sister: Caroline Wiseman Proffitt; One Brother & Sister-In-Law: Hayden & Deanna Wiseman; his brothers-in-law: Ed Harmon, Mike Baker and Bud Widener.
Survivors include his wife of 47½ years: Linda Hatley Wiseman; Two Sons: Len Ray Wiseman and Michael Wiseman; Four Grandchildren: Tyler, Makayla, Peyton & Dalton; Three Brothers: Howell Wiseman and wife, Jackie, Buddy Wiseman & wife, Lenora, and Larry Wiseman and wife, Phyllis; One Sister: Judy Wiseman Harmon, Sugar Grove, North Carolina; His Sisters & Brothers-in-Law: Phyllis Hatley Roberson and husband, George, Cassie Baker and BendiDetta Widener, Barbara Anecone, Boston, Mass., Steve Hatley and wife, Kathy, of Gray; A number of nieces & nephews; Two very special “Little Angels,” Addison Holden and Micah Arrowood.
A Service to Celebrate the life of Shorty Wiseman will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, in the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Mark Potter officiating.
