Charles Norman “Doc” Taylor, 75, Jonesborough, formerly of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 at his residence.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Herbert & Lena Peters Taylor.
He was a 1957 graduate of Unaka High School and attended East Tennessee State University.
Norman had served in the United States Army. He was a retired employee of Great Lakes and also had worked at Food City and Elizabethton School System.
Norman was a former Carter County Commissioner; he formerly had served on the Carter County School Board.
He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238, and he was a 32nd degree Mason and a former member of the Oriental Band.
Norman was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church where he previously had sung in the choir.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Velma Taylor and Glenda Buckles.
He was an avid Vol Fan, also Pat Summit, Jason Whitten and Peyton Manning.
Survivors include his wife: Betty Simerly Taylor. Two Sons: Brian Taylor and Chris Barnett. Three Daughters: Julie Story, Janice Mathes and Lori Decker. His Sisters: Shelia Groce and husband Robert and Dolly Taylor, Greeneville. One Brother: Gene Taylor and wife Brenda, Simpsonville, South Carolina. Nine Grandchildren: Haley Lyons, Jessica Barnett, Christy Barnett, Jacob Mathes, Hannah Decker, Zachary Barnett, Tristen Storie, Beth Decker and Adam Decker. A Special Great Granddaughter: London McKinney. His Brother-in-law: Ralph Buckles. Several nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Greer and Rev. Jack Lloyd officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by John Colbaugh and Grady & Lisa Holder.
Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday will be: Brian Taylor, Chris Barnett, Jacob Mathes, Scott Mathes, Michael Holmes and Mike Lyons.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Rick Culler, John Shepherd, Robert Groce, Ralph Buckles, Dayton Buckles, Donnie Taylor, Wayne Stout, Mike Lingerfelt and all of his Masonic Buddies. Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 will conduct a Memorial Service following the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence or the residence of a sister: Shelia Groce, 502 West Mill Street, Elizabethton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Taylor to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29605-4255.
Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
