China G. Wishon, age 91, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the home of her daughter, Roberta Bowers. Mrs. Wishon was the daughter of the late John and Cora Sullivan Greer and was born in Avery County, North Carolina. She retired from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center as an LPN. She was a member of Brick Christian Church and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mrs. Wishon enjoyed painting, working in her flowers, playing the guitar, and was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James R. Petrey; her second husband, Henry J. Wishon; one sister, Faye McGuire; and one brother, Tom Harmon.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Meadows; Roberta Bowers and husband J.C., all of Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Mike Sheffield and wife, Cindy, Kentucky; Michelle Bowers,
J. Todd Bowers, Leanne Bowers Combs and husband, Keith, all of Elizabethton; Kevin Sheffield and wife, Christie, Knoxville; Kimberly Haney and husband, Richard, Elizabethton; ten great-grandchildren, Lindsey Wright, Chloe Wright, Jacob “Jake” Sheffield, all of Knoxville; Kaitlyn Haney, Houston Combs, Hunter Combs, Madison Combs, Kody Lauderback, J. Alexis Bowers and Jayci Bowers, all of Elizabethton; one sister, Hazel Hall, Elizabethton; special friends and roommates, Edith Miller and Joyce Senesi, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration to honor Mrs. Wishon’s life will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, March 24, 2014 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Ernie Depew,
Dr. Don Marshall and Mr. John Smith, Ministers officiating. Music will be under the direction of Roberta Bowers, Jayci Bowers, Christie Sheffield and Gail McClure.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM prior to the funeral service in the chapel or at the home of a daughter, Roberta Bowers at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 12 Noon on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Todd Bowers, Kevin Sheffield, Richard Haney, Kody Lauderback, Hunter Combs, Houston Combs and Keith Combs. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Sheffield, Bryon Anderson, Daniel Marquert and the men of Brick Christian Church. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 11:15 AM on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of Hillview Health Care Center, MSHA Hospice, and Sycamore Shoals Hospital for the love and care shown to Mrs. Wishon during her illness.
