Clarence E. “Mac” McKinney, age 89, of Elizabethton, Tennessee passed away on Friday, June 14, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Clarence was born in Roan Mountain, Tennessee to the late Garfield and Georgia Freeman McKinney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Harrison McKinney; a son, Ronnie Dean Crowe; and a brother, Jeff McKinney.

Clarence retired from the General Motors Company and was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was an active member of the Carter County Hunting and Fishing Association and loved to make hammer dulcimers and mountain dulcimers. In fact, in his lifetime he had made thousands of dulcimers.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Keith McKinney and wife Barbara, of Omaha, NE; a grandchild, Roan McKinney, of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Dale McKinney and Ralph McKinney, both of Roan Mountain, TN; and two sisters, Jessie Shell, of Overland Park, KS and Sue Thompson, of Johnson City, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Clarence E. “Mac” McKinney will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 21, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Friday.

The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the charity of your choice.
