David Henry “D.H.” Hampton, Sr., 83, Elizabethton passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 in the Hermitage Health Center after a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Edd & Annie Simerly Hampton. D.H. attended Hampton High School and graduated from East Tennessee State College with a degree in Mathematic’s. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean & Vietnam Era. He was a retired Naval Flight Officer and Land Surveyor and Real Estate Developer. He was a member of the Elizabethton Elks Lodge. D.H. attended the Unity Church of the Tri Cities. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Joan Ann Wark Hampton, a son Daniel Hampton, and brothers: Dewey A. Hampton and Harold G. Hampton and a sister: Mary Hampton Brewer.
Survivors include his wife: Barbara Bristol Hampton. His Sons: Edward Hampton & wife Teresa Collins Hampton and David Hampton Jr. & wife Deborah Hughes Hampton. His Grandchildren: Elizabeth Hampton Davis, Chris Davis, Jonathan Hampton and David Hampton III. His Great Grandchildren: Jack Davis, Thomas Davis and Benjamin Davis. One Niece: Judy Couch, Johnson City.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Father Timothy Holder officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2019 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday will be: Jonathan Hampton, David Hampton, III, Chris Pennington, Teddy Collins, Jonathan Scalf, Michael Scalf and Greg Mathis. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Hermitage Health Center for the excellent care he received. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 223 Rosa L Parks Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203.
