Dessie Virginia Parker, age 88, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, February 20, 2014, at her residence.
Dessie was born on December 17, 1925, in Vinton, Virginia, but had lived in Elizabethton, TN, all of her life. She was a daughter of the late Carroll and Essie Coffey Herman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved her family and God.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Herman Parker; a son, Clarence “C.W.” Parker and wife, Dawn; a daughter, Linda Dunlap and husband, Steve; four grandsons, Grant Parker and wife, Megan, Todd Dunlap and wife, Billi, Eric Dunlap and wife, Rachel, and Amy Parker Zaborny; and four great grandchildren, Silas and Reese Parker and Emily and Parker Dunlap. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Parker will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2014, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. Joe Sorah, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM-2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday; or at the residence at anytime.
The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Clarence Parker, Todd Dunlap, Eric Dunlap, Steve Dunlap, Brad McClam and Glen Gouge.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sylvia Campbell, Mary Ellen Williams, Amedysis Hospice and the CNAs and staff with The Choice’s Program.
