Don Narvel Parkey, age 76, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton. He was a son of the late Reverend Stanley and Pearl Deaton Parkey. He was a native of Erwin but had lived in Elizabethton most of his life. Don was a member of the Lynn Valley Baptist Church. He was a Coach and Teacher at Unaka Elementary School for forty-five years where he was inducted into the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Gail White Parkey; one daughter, Melanie Parkey Oliver.

Don leaves behind to cherish his memory, one daughter, Laura Purkey and husband, Steve, Johnson City; one brother, Ron Parkey and wife, Evelyn; one sister, Phyllis Parkey Ingram, all of Erwin; two grandchildren: Andrew Oliver and Megan Oliver; two great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Lynn Valley Baptist Church, 1367 Broad Street, Elizabethton. Reverend Dennis Wilson will officiate at the 7:00 P.M. funeral service. Music will be provided by David Foster and Larry Ingram. Pallbearers will be Steve Purkey, Ron Parkey, Joe Oliver, Ron Oliver, Josh Scalf, and Henry Clay. Honorary Pallbearers will be Congressman Phil Roe, Charles Peters, Dallas Williams, and Buddy Hazelwood. Committal service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M. Wednesday.
