Donald Eugene Barnett, age 81, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 from Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Donald was born in Washington County, a son of the late Louis and Ruth Huffine Barnett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Barnett.
Donald retired as a pattern maker and attended both Immanuel Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Elizabethton. He was a United States Army veteran.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty Barnett, of Elizabethton; three sons, Don Nanney and John Nanney, both of Elizabethton and Joe Nanney, of Newport; seven grandchildren, Paige Nanney, Austin Nanney, Emilee Nanney, Madison Nanney, and Elisha Nanney, all of Elizabethton, and Joey Nanney and Olivia Nanney, both of Newport; four nephews, Steve Barnett and Shannon Barnett, both of Johnson City, Sam Barnett, of Erwin, and David Nanney and his wife Stephanie, and their two daughters, Victoria and Vanessa, all of Elizabethton; one niece, Sharon Smith, of Elizabethton; and his brother-in-law, Dan Nanney, of Elizabethton.
A celebration of life service for Donald Eugene Barnett will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 26, 2015 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Tim Tapp, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday.
The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
