Donald L. Cox, 69, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Washington County, he was the son of the late Eugene L. and Bonnie Godsey Cox.
Along with his father, he was one of the original founders of Gene Cox Mechanical Contractor Inc. Donald was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Elizabethton, where he formerly served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and youth pastor where he changed many lives. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge # 1831 in Johnson City. He was an avid golfer who was very proud of his hole-in-one. What he loved most was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eddie Cox, and sister-in-law, Phyllis Cox.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Sherry Watkins Cox, children: Skip DePew, Kimberly Cox Goodman and her husband Allen, and Brandi Cox; grandchildren: Jamie DePew, Jessica DePew, Chris Goodman, Kelly Goodman, Presley Cox, and Ryleigh Cox; sisters: Lillian “Sis” Babb and her husband Rev. Claude Babb, Brenda Treadway and her husband Sonny; brother, Gary Cox. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family will gather to greet friends on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 12:00 pm until a celebration of Donald’s life beginning at 2:00 pm at Tetrick Funeral & Cremation Services, Johnson City with Pastor Joey Murdock officiating. A graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Scotty Burgandal, Mike Burgandal, Luke Whitson, Bo Mutter, Mike Saults, Randy Watkins, and Chris Goodman. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Jones, Allen Goodman, Sonny Treadway, Allen Torbett and R.V. Mann.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be sent to the American Heart Association 3101 Browns Mill Road, Suite 6, PMB 321, Johnson City, TN 37604.
