Earl J. Norris, 99, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at his home in Elizabethton.
Mr. Norris, a local business owner, served in the U.S. Army Air Force 612th Bomb Squad in England during World War II. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed attending TN Vol football games for many years. Earl and his wife, Ruth, also spent many sunny days fishing on local lakes and in Florida where they spent winter months during retirement.
Earl leaves behind his devoted wife of 75 years, Ruth Harmon Norris, of the home. Also surviving are his sons, Patrick (Marianne) Norris, of St. Augustine, FL, and John (Pam) Norris, of Elizabethton; grandchildren, Eliot (Casey) Norris, of Seattle, WA, and Kate Melton of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Scarlet, Penelope and Dutch. He is also survived by his siblings, Ruth Jamerson, Johnson City, Paul Norris, Jackson, TN, and Peggy Phillips, Columbia, SC, along with several nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Avery L. and Caroline (Carrie) Millsaps Norris, and his siblings, J.C. Norris, Dwight Norris, and his brothers-in-law, Reece Jamerson and John Phillips.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carter County Emergency Rescue, 105 Iodent Way, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to caregivers Jerri Surber, Carol, Jenny, Madge, Carmen, Tammy and Doris.
