Edward “Poage” Whitehead, 92, Johnson City, died after an extended illness June 29, 2018 at NHC Healthcare Facility.  Poage was born in Butler, TN to the late Carson Hamilton and Abbie Gill Campbell Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by six brothers: Frank, Herbert, Clyde, Bobby, J.D. and Bill Whitehead; four sisters: Frances Hafner, Mae Reed, Dorothy Campbell, and Christine Dye. He was of the Baptist Faith. Poage served in the Army during World War II.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruby Buck Whitehead, who never left his side. Poage is also survived by his loving family, daughter, Carolyn Carrier (Larry Gene). Grandchildren, Christy Thompson (Travis), and Heather Brush (Drew) and Great-Grandchildren: Carson and Ella Thompson, and Breden Brush. Mr. Whitehead is also survived by two sisters: Sara Sellers and Jean Stewart and two brothers: Bud Whitehead (Betty) and Paul Whitehead (Jean). Also, left to cherish his memory is several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. R.L. Poole officiating and Travis Thompson providing the music.  Active Pallbearers will be Tommy Whitehead, Drew Brush, Travis Thompson, Gene Carrier, Eddie Andes, and David Townsend. Honorary Pallbearers will be Keith Mullins, Glen Townsend and Bud Whitehead. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.  Graveside Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. -7 p.m. Monday before the service. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. to go to the cemetery.  Friends may also visit the family at his residence.
