Effie Mae Holder, age 92, of Elizabethton, formerly a resident of Courtyard Apartments, where she had resided for over 20 years, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 15, 2016 from Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center. Effie was born in Appalachia, Virginia to the late Pete and Lola Oliver. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Nidiffer on August 14, 2011.

Effie had worked in the hospital cafeteria and was a member of Eastside Freewill Baptist Church, where she was a member of the church prayer group. She was affectionately known as “Mum Mum”. She enjoyed going out to eat, reading and walking.

Those left to cherish her memory include a grandson, Keith Bowers and wife Patty, of Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Traci Ward and husband Jason, of Elizabethton; one great granddaughter, Hayley Bowers, of Elizabethton; a son-in-law, Gregg Nidiffer, of Elizabethton; and three nephews, Johnny Holder, Grady Holder and Rodney Campbell, all of Elizabethton.

A committal and entombment service to honor the life of Effie May Holder will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 18, 2016 in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Justin Deaton, officiating. Active pallbearers will be the Deacons of East Side Freewill Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be the therapists at Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center and Andrew Gunn, who walked with her every day. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 9:15 AM on Thursday, to go in procession.

A visitation will be conducted from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton; or at the residence of her son-in-law, Gregg Nidiffer, at other times.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff, nurses, and doctors of Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center and the Pine Ridge Community (family) for stopping in to visit Effie. A special thanks to a family friend, who ministered to her, Theron Johnson.
