Elsie “Jean” Freeman, age 85, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Jean was born in Carter County to the late Lawrence Bowling and Helen Turner Blackburn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Richard Turner, Johnnie Turner, Eddie Turner and Pauline Williams.
Jean was a loving, compassionate and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She was a Christian woman of faith and attended Trinity Baptist Church. Jean had worked as a nurse for Mountain States Health Alliance for nearly forty years. During her career there she was awarded the “Nurse Excellence Award” in 1999. She loved reading and when she couldn’t see well she listened to books. She also enjoyed caring for others and sitting on her front porch.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Cecil Eugene Freeman, of the home; her sons, Ronnie Lynn Freeman, of Elizabethton and Michael Eugene Freeman, of Virginia Beach, VA; two grandchildren, Rachael Freeman and Adrian Michael Kincade; two great grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Miller.
A service to celebrate the life of Elsie “Jean” Freeman will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Tony Birchfield, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Pm until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday.
The committal and entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
The family would like to especially thank Jean’s granddaughter, Rachael, for the loving support and tireless care for her grandmother.
