Eugene M. Taylor, age 94, of 1299 Bristol Highway, Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Hillview Health Center.
Mr. Taylor was a native of Carter County and a son of the late George and Nannie Lyons Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Emmert Taylor, Herman Taylor, Clarence Taylor and Delmar Taylor; one sister, Corrine Broyles; a step son, Fred Carr; and one step grandson, Steven Carr.
Mr. Taylor was a retired supplies manager for the City of Johnson City. He was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, a member of American Legion # 49 and the Disabled American Veterans and was a United States Army Veteran, where he served in World War II and received a Purple Heart while serving his country.
He loved yard work and gardening. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father and step father and he was loved by many, many people.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille V. Taylor, of the home; two daughters, Nancy Cole, Greensboro, NC, and Patricia Honeycutt of Virginia; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two step daughters, Anna Belle Hensley and Virginia Hicks, both of Elizabethton; three step sons, Clarence Carr, of Virginia, Clyde Carr, of Johnson City, and Kenneth Carr, of Elizabethton; eleven step grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren; one brother, Walter Taylor, of Elizabethton; and one sister, Florence Daughtery, of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family respectfully requests your presence at a funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Taylor on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at 7:00 PM in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Paul Crowe and Rev. Howard Ray officiating. Music will be under the direction of Barbara Smith.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 3, 2014, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Kenneth Carr, Joseph Carr, Richard Hicks Jr., Ronnie Hicks, Kennith Hensley Jr. and Freddie Honeycutt. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Hicks, Kennith Hensley, Clyde Carr, Casey Hornsby, Cody Peradott, Dusty Carr, Adam Carr, members of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church and the staff at Hillview Health Center. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 10:15 AM on Friday, January 3, 2014, to go in procession.
