Evelyn Austin Pearson, age 92, of Piney Flats, TN, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Erwin Health Care Center. Evelyn was born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia to the late Curtis Henry Austin and Ethyle Moers Austin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul Cooper Pearson, Jr. in 1982; a son, Paul C. Pearson, III, of Corpus Christi, TX; a grandson, Jonathan Heaton; and her identical twin, Ethyle Davis.
Evelyn graduated from the University of Texas and retired as an elementary school teacher in Summit, New Jersey. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Piney Flats and was a judge for the National Flower Guild. She loved spending summers on Beech Mountain.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Linda Heaton and husband Gregory, of Piney Flats and Deborah Duchmann and husband Karl, of Indianapolis, IN; ten grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews and one special niece and caretaker, Phyllis Ciano, Banner Elk, NC.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Evelyn Austin Pearson will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, March 11, 2016 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Brent Price, minister officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Friday.
The graveside service will be conducted at 9:00 AM on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Gregory Heaton, Sr., Karl Duchmann, Sr., Gregory Heaton, Jr., Karl Duchmann, Jr., Matthew Austin Heaton and James M. Heaton, III. Ryne Austin Duchmann will serve as honorary pallbearer. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 8:55 AM on Saturday.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to Guilford College, 5800 W. Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27410 in memorandum of Paul C. Pearson, Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund.
