Evelyn Irene Gouge Hodge, 78, Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord Sunday, February 8, 2015 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Harold & Mattie Nidiffer Gouge. Evelyn was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She had operated Circle Beauty Shop for 40 years. She was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church for over 60 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Herman Hodge, and two brothers: Duard & Wayne Gouge.
Survivors include her brother & sister-in-law: Kyle & Phyllis Gouge. A sister: Norma Jean Elliott. Her Nieces: Debbie Gouge Teague, Lois Gouge Hyder, and Kristi White Noe. Her Nephews: Jeffrey Gouge, Tommy Gouge, David Miller, Bobby Miller and Greg White. Nine Great Nieces & Nephews, 9 Great-Great Nieces & Nephews.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 13 2015 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Steven Nauman, Sr. officiating. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:50 a.m. Friday will be: Jeffrey Gouge, David Miller, Ronnie Wilson, Clifford Hyder, Larry Treadway, Bobby Miller, Bill Gentry and Ken Barrickman.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Nurses & Staff of the 5300 Wing, Johnson City Medical Center especially Patty Neas and Kaleb Roberts for their outstanding Care, Shon Blevins, D.O.N. and the Nurses & Staff of Pine Ridge Care & Rehabilitation center for her comfort & care during her recent illness, Amy Hyder Henegar, D.O.N (Great Niece) and the nurses & staff of Hillview Health Center for the loving care given following the death of her beloved husband.
To those who prefer, Memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Hodge to the Senior Ministry of Hunter First Baptist Church, 693 Highway 91, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the home of her brother & sister-in-law: Kyle & Phyllis Gouge, 110 Jerome Street, Johnson City. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:50 a.m. Friday for prayer and a song service by Patty Hodge and then proceed to the cemetery.
