Mrs. Evelyn S. Taylor, age 80, of Elizabethton, TN, went home to be with her Lord with her family by her side Saturday, January 18, 2014, at her residence following a brief illness.
Born February 26, 1933, in Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Lyda Taylor and Tina Taylor. Evelyn married her loving husband of sixty-two years Freeman Taylor at New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church (where she was a member at that time) on December 17, 1951.
She and her husband, Freeman, owned and operated Quik Cleaners and Laundry from 1962 until their retirement, at which time the business was turned over to their sons. Evelyn was presently a member of Moore’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
Her hobbies included traveling, camping and shopping, but her favorite thing to do was to cook meals for her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Paxton Taylor.
Survivors include her husband, Freeman Taylor; her children, Kenneth Taylor and wife, Nancy, Mickey Taylor, Kirby Taylor and wife, Susan, Phillip Taylor and fiancé, Joy Reynolds, and Connie Taylor-Wyche, all of Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Cindy and Loren Harris, Elizabethton, Dina and Aaron Taylor, Jonesborough, Elaine and Jesse Hensley, Piney Flats, Kayla and James Coffee, NC, Travis Taylor, Elizabethton, Christopher and Rachel Potter, Nashville, Matthew Taylor, Elizabethton, Heather and Jonny Hirata, CA, Kelly and Cameron Shelton, KY, Gabrielle Taylor, Elizabethton, Phillip Landon Taylor, Elizabethton, Casey Chambers, Elizabethton, James Wyche, Elizabethton, John Wyche, Elizabethton, and Jacob Wyche, Elizabethton; twelve great-grandchildren; her sisters, Freda Bradshaw and Bessie Hambrick; her brother, Howard L. Taylor; and brothers-in-law, R.C. Bradshaw and Bud Hambrick. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family requests the comfort and honor of your presence at a Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Evelyn S. Taylor on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Clarence Phillips and Rev. Greg Largent officiating. Music will be under the direction of Ronnie Blevins and Brenda Kay Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday prior to the service. Friends may also visit the family at 254 Sunrise Drive, Elizabethton, at other times.
Committal and entombment service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 22, 2014, in Happy Valley Memorial Park, Mausoleum of Peace. Active pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons, Matthew Taylor, Travis Taylor, James Wyche, John Wyche and Jacob Wyche, and great-grandson, Joseph Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Clifford Peters, Leroy Blevins, Ronnie Blevins, Ronnie McClure, Gary Lynn Taylor, James Taylor, Bobby Grindstaff, David Grindstaff and Brian Taylor. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 A.M. on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Regional Cancer Center, Dr. Krishnan, Dr. Alan Forbush and his staff and to two nieces, Debbie Greer Grindstaff and Roseann Bowers, for the loving care they have shown to our mother during her illness.
