George Mark Ellis, age 78, of High Point, North Carolina, passed away due to heart complications on Thursday, June 12, 2014 in the High Point Regional Hospital.
Mr. Ellis was born on February 25, 1936 in Shell Creek, Tennessee, to Paul and Lillian (Hoss) Ellis.
He graduated from Cloudland High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 in Alaska. He married Phyllis Ann Simerly on December 26, 1956 in Roan Mountain, Tennessee. He graduated from University of Tennessee in 1960 with an engineering degree. He began his career as an industrial engineer in Roanoke, Virginia and eventually moved to High Point, North Carolina.
He lived in High Point for 40 years, and he enjoyed fishing, basket weaving and watching UT sports in his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis Ellis; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and David Mikkelson of Fayetteville, North Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Keith Huff of Kernersville, North Carolina; four grandchildren and two brothers, Paul “Sonny” and Randy Ellis.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton, Tennessee. The receiving of family and friends will be from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior the service. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park.
