Mr. Hansel Winters, 85, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 7, 2014, at his home.
He was the son of the late William and Bessie Winters and was born in the Shell Creek Community of Roan Mountain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters and a grandson, Jeffrey Winters.
Mr. Winters was a member of the Elizabethton Church of Christ (formerly known as the C Street Church of Christ) and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War in Germany. He was a member of American Legion Post #49. He retired from Raytheon with thirty-two years of service and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, June Presnell Winters, of the home; two daughters, Pamela Winters, Elizabethton, Peggy Winters Stevens and her husband, Jim, Murfreesboro, TN; a son, Wade Winters and his wife, Sandy, Murfreesboro, TN; five grandchildren, Nicholas Seay and his wife, Samantha, Andrea Burgess and her husband, Bill, Laurie Kate Winters, Andrew Stevens, Diana Carr; five great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Rodney Campbell, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Winters will be conducted on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Roby Ellis, minister, officiating. A eulogy will be delivered by his son, Wade Winters. Music will be under the direction of Steve Roberts.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from Noon-2:00 PM on Thursday prior to the service.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Willie Holsclaw, Rodney Campbell, Dan Bowman, Jim Stevens, Gather Humphries, Dennis Pierce and Troy Waldrop. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Burleson, Ken Callaway, Dr. Ahmad Khan, Dr. Jonathan Bremer and Dr. Stewart Leicth. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Caris Hospice for all the love and care shown to Mr. Winters and to the family during his illness.
