Fred Garrison, age 87, of Elizabethton, went home to rest in the presence of his Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Fred was born on May 9, 1928 in Carter County, a son of the late Henry Arthur Garrison. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Henry A. “Bud” Bradshaw.

Fred had worked at Watauga Industries in Elizabethton and had attended First Freewill Baptist Church. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served 20 years in the military – serving valiantly in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Fred was also a member of the Elks Lodge and the National Banham Association. He enjoyed birdwatching, fishing, raising chickens, hunting and being outdoors.

Those left to cherish his memory include his niece, Sandy Carroll, of Elizabethton; his nephew, Freddie Bradshaw, of Elizabethton; his great nieces, Rhonda Edgins and Meshell Bradshaw, both of Elizabethton; a great nephew, Bryan Bradshaw; and a great great niece, Areanna Edgins.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Fred Garrison will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 10, 2015 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Nick Bradshaw, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday.

The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Tim Carroll, Freddie Bradshaw and Bryan Bradshaw. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Garrison, Terry Garrison and Danny Garrison.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to “C.L.C.” ~ the staff at the Community Living Center at Mountain Home, for the love and care shown to Fred and his family during his illness.
