Harold Wayne Bowers, 71, Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was the son of the late Floyd and Nell Robinson Bowers. He was also preceded in death by one sister: Patricia J. Bowers.
Mr. Bowers was a retired millwright with Daniels Construction Company in Kingsport for 22 years and was a carrier for the Elizabethton Star for 38 years. He was a veteran, serving in the Tennessee National Guard. He attended Stoney Creek Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. He loved softball, fishing and NBA “Laka” Basketball.
He is survived by his wife of almost fifty years, Phyllis Riddle Bowers; a Daughter and Son-in-law, Steven and Angela Bowers Maupin; a Son, Trampas Bowers; the lights of his life, his two grandchildren, Gabriel Maupin and Elizabeth Ann Maupin; one niece, Heather Riddle. Also some very special lifelong friends, Jan Estep and the late Richard “ Dick” Estep.
A Service to celebrate the life of Harold Bowers will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Stoney Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. David Foster officiating. Graveside Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by the Stoney Creek Baptist Church Choir. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the church at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday and also Thursday at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. will be Steve Maupin, Gabriel Maupin, Jason Shaw, Mike “Acy: Ensor, David Bowers, Glen Maney, John Fletcher, Mike Smith, and Wayne Picna. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Shannon Estep, Lance Estep, Ray Lewis, Marvin Garland, and A.D. “Sonny” Fletcher, Aaron Pierce, Gene Church, Kenny Simerly, Richard “Jarfly” Dugger, Perry Perkins and his church family. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Stoney Creek Baptist Church. The family has requested all flowers go through Bowers Florist. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
