Harry Cox of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away peacefully with his family on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at the age of 83.
Harry was born to parents Lloyd L. Cox Sr. and Hazel Viola Ferguson on April 18, 1939 in Ohio. He grew up as the youngest of five, and he moved to Virginia in 1962 where he met and married Sharon S. Young of Banner Elk, NC in 1965. Harry was a financial specialist for the Navy Department. Harry retired in 1992, when he and Sharon moved to Elizabethton, TN. Harry was a cancer survivor for over 15 years, before the cancer metastasized to his bones and he also suffered with Alzheimer’s disease up to his death. He loved playing the piano and had a great singing voice, he played piano for nursing homes and for various churches in Virginia and Tennessee. He enjoyed flea markets, meeting new people and being out and about. He never met a stranger and was loved by everyone.
Harry is survived by his wife of 57 years Sharon; son, Christopher Cox (Lisa); granddaughter’s, Stephanie Cox, Robyn Beveridge and Paige Sensabaugh; grandson, Jake Sensabaugh; great-grandson, Colton Gushwa and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd L. Cox Sr. and Hazel Viola Cox; brothers, Charles, Lloyd Jr., and sisters, Ellen and Esther.
A service to celebrate the life of Harry Cox will be conducted at 6:00 PM on Friday, September 30, 2022 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends between the hours of 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM prior to the service on Friday.
The graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected by family and friends. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 AM on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 2319 Browns Mill Rd, Johnson City, TN or the National Cancer Society, 861 Weisgarber Rd, Knoxville, TN 37909.
