Helen Galloway of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on April 5, 2019. She was born in Bluff City, Tennessee on September 16, 1932, daughter of the late Lawrence and Audrey Lee Smith. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Mrs. Harold (Gladys) Glover, Mrs. Orel (Irene) Lowrie, Mrs. Charles (Eva) Bartley, Mrs. Clarence (Mary) Stanfield, Mrs. James (Juanita) Riley, from Bluff City, Tennessee.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. J. M. Galloway and by one sister, and one brother-in-law Joyce and Asa Blalock from Tallahassee, Florida.

She graduated from Bluff City High School and East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. She was a teacher in Bristol, TN (Rosemont Elementary); Knoxville, TN (Halls Elementary); and a librarian in Nashville TN (Cumberland Elementary). During her years of service, she was elected teacher of the year three times from her schools. She also personally received from Governor Ned Ray McWherter TENNESSEE’S OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD “conferred in recognition of services performed so as to preserve and enhance the tradition of Tennessee excellence which is the pride of our people”. She was a devoted Christian wife, a tireless worker in her church and other religious activities, and a gifted writer, artist, and painter, especially in drawing, oil painting, and china painting. Several of her artistic drawings have been selected for printing as greeting cards. Her china painting was well received and her hand painted china jewelry pieces have become keepsakes for many persons who are fortunate enough to possess them.

Nashville, TN Services
There will be a visitation on Friday, April 12, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Lincoya Hills Baptist Church, 3143 McGavock Pike, Nashville, TN. There will be another receiving of friends at Lincoya Hills Baptist Church one hour preceding the celebration of her life on Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Lincoya Hills Baptist Church with Dr. D.L. Lowrie, officiating.
Tri-Cities, TN Services
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Sunday, April 14, 2019 in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the Celebration of Her Life Service at the Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church, Bluff City, TN at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 15, 2019 with Dr. Jerry Lowrie and Dr. Dwight Lowrie, officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Happy Valley Memorial Cemetery in Elizabethton, TN on Monday, April 15, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association: 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201; Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607: the Nashville Rescue Mission, 639 Lafayette Street, Nashville, TN 37203; or your favorite charity.
