Jack D. Pate, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from his residence, following an extended illness. Jack was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Beryl Grant Pate and Ida May Stephens Pate. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Beryl Pate, Jr. and Bobby Lee Pate; one sister, Nellie Jane Kirk; a grandson, Jamie Lee Pate; and a daughter-in-law, Darlene Pate.

Jack had worked as a homebuilder and was a member of Carter Christian Church where he had served as a deacon for many years. Jack loved music and singing in a quartet – Buddy Rose and the Country Tune Twisters. He sang in the quartet the Master’s Men. He played bass guitar and sang tenor.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 65 years, Nellie Jo Pate, of the home; four daughters, Cathy Timbs and husband James, of Elizabethton, Belinda Heaton and husband Tim, of Alabama, Kimberley Proffitt and husband Russell, of Elizabethton, and T. Leann Pate, of Elizabethton; one son, Dannie L. Pate, of Elizabethton; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great great grandson; two brothers, Bill H. Pate and wife Elaine, of Johnson City and Ted Pate and wife Margaret, of Johnson City; one sister, Doris Campbell and husband Joe, of Florida. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mr. Jack D. Pate will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 17, 2016 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Tom Caraway and Mr. Daryl Cox, ministers, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearer will be Edwin Taylor. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 1:15 PM on Friday, to go in procession.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedisys Home Health and Caris Hospice for the love and care given to Jack during his illness.
