Jack Miller, 79, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late George Washington & Ruth Farmer Miller. He was a 1954 graduate of Elizabethton High School. Jack owned and operated City Market for 40+ years until he sold the business to Jennifer Hughes in 1997.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Jack loved sports especially the Elizabethton Cyclones Football and the Elizabethton Twins. He also loved camping.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Boone Miller, who died May 5, 2007; and by two infant sisters.
Survivors include a son & daughter-in-law: Bobby Daniel & Tina Miller, Dobson, North Carolina; Two Grandchildren: Erica Cheyenne Miller and Daniel Preston Miller; Three Sisters: Earlene Wheeler and husband, Dick, and Jane Brooks and husband, John, all of Bristol, and Anne Martin and husband, Bob, Washington, North Carolina; One Brother & Sister-in-Law: Billy Ray & Maggie Miller, Elizabethton; Several nieces & nephews; A special friend: Marie Blankenship.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Travis Tyler and Rev. Ron Owens officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015, in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Bob Shupe officiating. Music will be provided by Pat Presnell, Pianist. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 7:50 p.m. Thursday and also at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Friday, will be: Aaron Brooks, Cameron Brooks, Traye Harrison, Robert Hughes, Jeff Buckles, Jeff Bowers, Keith Davenport and Nathaniel Hughes. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Adult Men’s 1 Sunday School Class, Grace Baptist Church, Keith Lowe, employees & former employees of City Market and his buddies at Broad Street Barber Shop.
To those who prefer, memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Grace Baptist Church. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
