Jackie Earl Atwood, age 68, of Johnson City, Tennessee and formerly of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015. He was born on April 10, 1947 to the late Ford and Velma Kirby Atwood. In addition to his parents, Jackie was preceded in death by a brother, Teddy Atwood and special grandmother, Bitha ‘Nanny’ Kirby.

Jackie was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and loved riding them even more. He always enjoyed spending time and riding bikes with his motorcycle friends.

Jackie was very kind hearted and always willing to help those in need. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family. He was a generous and free spirited person.

He was a United States Army Veteran.

Jackie is survived by his wife Arlene Gentry Atwood; sons: Jackie Atwood and wife Scarlet and Tracy Atwood and wife Christie; sister, Patricia Atwood Bowers and husband John; granddaughter, Cooper Atwood; grandsons: Dalton Atwood and Hunter Atwood; several nieces and nephews and many special friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Eulogy will follow 8:00 p.m. by Minister Don Kirby.
Graveside Service and Interment with Military Honors conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens, Elizabethton, TN. Pallbearers will be Mack Swift, Randy Howard, Bob Dunn, Chris Glover, Buck Kirby and Ronnie Kirby. Honorary pallbearers are Jennifer Cruz, Director of Nursing at the Courtyards, Connie Glasure, who was Jackie’s Primary Care Nurse, Donnie Hampton, Stevie Hampton and Dean Gentry.

Jackie’s family recognizes with great appreciation, the extraordinary and loving care that he received from the staff and residents of The Courtyards Assisted Living in Johnson City and from Caris Hospice.
