James Earl Bowers, age 83, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Mr. Bowers was a native of Carter County and was a son of the late Clinton and Virginia Calloway Bowers Mottern. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Della Jane Bowers; a daughter, Barbara Jane Bowers Perry; and two brothers, Albert and Esten Bowers.

Mr. Bowers was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F & AM, and the V.F.W. He enjoyed remodeling homes, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a member of Hunter First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, Rick L. Bowers of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Jesse Bowers and wife Lyndsay of Knoxville, Jenny Bowers, and Conley Bowers both of Elizabethton; four sisters, Nanny Morris, Lillian Royston, Helen Buckles, and Evelyn Blevins all of Elizabethton.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. James Earl Bowers will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2015 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Charlie Trivette and Rev. Ray Stockton, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday.

The graveside service will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Roger Ledford, Danny Blevins, Paul Nave, William Greenwell, Travis Royston, and Tim Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Williams, Jim Lane, Kenneth Garland, Jamie Mann, Steve Greenwell, and the extended family.
