James Glendell “Jim” Norris, age 73, of 147 Dogwood Ave, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on Friday March 14, 2014 at the Johnson County Community Hospital. Jim was born June 10, 1940 in Butler, Tennessee to the late Haskell Norris and Blanche Elliott Norris. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Edwin Norris. Jim was a barber for 43 years and a former owner of Sanco Drug Store and Jim’s Barber Shop. He was a United States Army Veteran, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #79, former Alderman for the Town of Mountain City, a member of Roans Creek Masonic Lodge #679, a Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason, a charter member of the Jericho Temple and a member of the Johnson County Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Roan Creek Baptist Church. Jim loved bluegrass music, playing the banjo, and the bass and antique cars.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Alice Snyder Norris of the home. Two nieces, Sheila Shaw of Mountain City, Tennessee and Kim Overman of Knoxville, Tennessee. A nephew, Joe Snyder of Winston-Salem, NC. Four great-nephews, Lucas, Jackson, and Eli Snyder all of Winston-Salem, NC and Trevor Overman of Durham, NC.

Funeral services for Jim Norris will be conducted on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Ministers David Hankal and Harry Cunningham officiating. Masonic funeral rites will follow the funeral service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Military graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. March 18, 2014 from the Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton, Tennessee, accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Everyone is asked to assemble at 9:45 a.m. at the cemetery on Tuesday. Active pallbearers will be Joe Snyder, Michael Eller, Brian Eller, Trent Snyder, Joey Phillips, Bob Heck, Junior Eastridge, Tommy Nelson, Willie Arnold and Wade Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers are Junior Maze, Earl Rice, Larry Henson, Gary Henson, Uriah Fletcher, Jim Hensley, Cecil McGlamery, Durward Steagall and Colin Burns.

Memorials may be made to the Roan Creek Baptist Church, 639 Lumpkin Branch Road, Mountain City, Tennessee.

At other times the family will receive friends at the residence, 147 Dogwood Avenue, Mountain City, Tennessee.
