James “Jim” Collins, 81, Piney Flats, passed away Monday, December 30, 2019, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Jim was born in Grundy, VA to the late William and Alice Collins.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City. He belonged to Boones Creek Ruritan Club and was a lifelong member of Tennessee Claims Association. In the 60’s, he worked for NASCAR under GC Spencer. He later worked for Allstate Insurance Company for 28 years.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by: the love of his life and wife for 38 years, Shelby K. Collins; daughter, Sharon Miller; and grandson, Blair Birchfield.

Survivors include: two sons, David Collins and his wife Leslie, of Greenville, SC, and Rodney Emmert and his wife Missi, of Nashville, TN; two daughters, Lisa White and her husband David, of Johnson City, and Lori Haines and her husband Ed, of Johnson City; one sister, Nancy Faucette and her husband Pete, of Johnson City; ten grandchildren, Hailey, Caleb, Dalton, Brooklin, Sarah, Evan, LeAnn, Will, Jordan and Sarah; one great grandson, Carson; and nephew and niece, Gregg and Rachelle.

The family of Jim Collins will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at Morris-Baker. The funeral will follow at 7 PM with Dr. Ron Murray and Rev. Gene Elliott officiating. Pallbearers include: Jordan Haines, Will Vinson, Evan White, Dalton Emmert, Caleb Collins, Ed Haines and David White. Honorary pallbearers include: Warren Torbett, Bill McConell and Vic Davis. The committal service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to meet at the graveside by 10:50 AM.
