Mrs. Jeane Smithdeal Hyder, 80, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, on Friday, October 20, 2017, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Joe and Virginia Hale Smithdeal and was born in Elizabethton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Norman “Buddy”Hyder; a brother, Allen Smithdeal and a brother-in-law, Tony Hyder.

Mrs. Hyder worked in the office at the family Grocery Store, Smithdeal’s, and she, along with her husband, owned and operated Hyder Tomato Company. She was a member of Valley Forge United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, but loved spending time with her family, especially her four grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Kathy Boling (Rick); a son, Andy Hyder; all of Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Justin Boling (Danielle), Roan Mountain; Austin Boling, Andrea Hyder and Amy Hyder, all of Elizabethton; two grand-daughters, Madison Boling and Isabella Boling, of Roan Mountain; a brother, Sid Smithdeal, (Trula Haley), Butler; a brother-in-law, Ray Hyder (Sue), of Johnson City; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Ford, Brenda Hyder, Nancy Elliott, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews, and her special friends, Riley Barnett, Rhett Chaney and Patsy Helfer also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Hyder will be conducted on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Valley Forge United Methodist Church with Rev. Vincent K. Krauss officiating. Music will be under the direction of Linda Baughman, soloist, Judy Little, pianist, and Trilla Little, organist. The family will receive friends in the church from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Sunday prior to the service, or at her home at other times.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Justin Boling, Austin Boling, Travis Brumit, Art Smithdeal, Rick Smithdeal and Joe Smithdeal. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Slagle, Ronny Street, Gary Jenkins, Cleatis Boling and the former employees of Hyder Tomato Company.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mid-South Chapter, 2020 Meadowview PK., Suite 100, Kingsport, TN, 37660.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and to Shannon Phillips Clark for all the love and care provided to Mrs. Hyder and the family.
