Joel E. Potter

Joel E. Potter, age 98, went to be with the his Lord and Savior on May 22, 2021, born in Coeburn, VA, he served his country five years in the Army Air Corps and served twenty-seven years in Civil Service. Receiving nine outstanding service awards, he retired in 1978 as a Management Analyst in Procurement (GS-11) from Wright-Paterson AFB, Dayton, OH.
Joel studied business at the University of Dayton, OH, and received a diploma to repair radios and TV’s. He enjoyed restoring old things, repairing radios and TV’s, boating, fishing, sports (played football and basketball).
He was preceded in death by J.S. and Pearl Potter (parents), Odra Rosenbeck and Ula Cress (sisters), and Laymon J. Potter (brother).
He is survived by Judy (wife); Rita Hickox and Lauren Keyes (daughters); Rita’s family: Ron Hickox (h); Tara Fowler (granddaughter) & William Fowler (h) & two great-grandson, Logan and Connor; Tami Ford (granddaughter) & Justin Ford (h) and three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Isaac and Elias. Lauren’s family: Laurie Fahey (granddaughter) and Colin Fahey (h), Declan & Leora (great-grandchildren; Chelsea Wolfred (granddaughter), Mark Wolfred (h), Arabella and Viviana (great-grandchildren). He is also survived by his three step-sons and their families: Bob Phillips (Nancy (w), Megan, granddaughter); Dan Phillips (Linda (w), Brian, Erik, Kaitlin, Christopher, grandchildren), Jim Phillips (Treasure (w), Levi & Marcus, grandchildren). He has twenty-four nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at French Broad Baptist Church, 2117 Oak Grove Road, Dandridge, June 12, 2021 at 11 a.m.
