Joyce Lee Greene, 78, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Greystone Health Care Center. She was a native of Boone, NC and was a daughter of the late Daniel and Ida Lee Miller Bryan. Mrs. Greene was a homemaker and a member of the Milligan Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and Freckles, her dog. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Greene Sr. in 2013; five sisters, Ruby Beddow, Della Richardson, Margaret Hill, Barbara J. Hill and Mary Carter; a brother J. D. Bryan; a son-in-law, Charles Ellis; a great-granddaughter, Cayle Hickman; also an infant grandchild Huffman.
Survivors include four children, Sabrina Lee Ellis; Houston (Buddy) Greene and wife, Kathy all of Johnson City, Cindy Lane and husband, Bob of Blountville and Danny Greene and wife, Sandra of Johnson City; ten grandchildren, Katrina Knight, Edward Huffman, Christy Ellis, Holly Greene, Houston E. Greene III, Steven Greene, Joy Beth Alexander, Bobbi Hickman, Derick Greene and Kelley Greene; nine great-grandchildren, Skylar, Nathan, David, Lacie, Noah, Abigail, McKinleigh, Bethaney and Madyson; a great-great-grandson Samuel; also several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Milligan Free Will Baptist Church, 1471 Milligan Highway, Johnson City with Pastor Mark Street officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday in the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be sons and grandsons, Houston E. Greene Jr., Danny Greene, Eddie Huffman, Houston E. Greene III, Steve Greene, Derek Greene, Wayne Knight and Caleb Hickman. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Katrina Knight, Holly Greene, Joy Beth Alexander, Christy Ellis, Bobbi Hickman, Kailey Greene, Tracey Huffman and Sarah Greene. For those attending the graveside service you are asked to meet at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City Friday by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Greystone Health Care Center, especially Losha, Telda, Christine, Christy, Jerry and Mary for all of the wonderful care they provided.
