Juna Mae Harmon, 92, Johnson City, entered the presence of her loving Savior on December 10, 2018, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Juna Mae was born May 31, 1926, in the Shell Creek community of Carter County and lived most of her life in Johnson City.  She lived in Flint, Michigan for many years where she worked for General Motors until her retirement in 1982 when she moved back to Johnson City to be near family. Juna Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Leota Stout Harmon, her brother, James Arnold Harmon, his wife, Mildred Whittington Harmon, and her sister Naomi Winters Slate. She is survived by six nieces and one nephew, Gail Harmon Crowe, Cathy Harmon Castle, June Harmon Rominger, Carol Ann Winters Kendrick, Dinah Winters Taylor, Marcella Winters Howard and Doug Winters; many great nieces and nephews; a special friend, Brenda Kish. As a member of West Side Christian Church, Elizabethton, Juna Mae was a blessing to those with whom she came in contact. She loved participating in anything going on in the life of the church. Juna Mae had a “green thumb”, and could make anything grow and thrive. She had beautiful flowers around her home – inside and out. She also loved to sew and often made clothes, blankets, etc. for others. She also loved to cook and bake and often took food to shut-ins. There was not a recipe she would not try. She was a former member of the Community Club in Johnson City. She loved the outdoors and would often go for hikes on trails along the Blue Ridge Parkway. In the last several years while living at Life Care of Elizabethton, Juna Mae was lovingly known as “The Hat Lady”, donning a themed hat for every occasion.  Seeing the smiles on people’s faces as they saw her different hats brought her so much joy! She was an outstanding Christian woman of faith, a devoted sister, sister-in-law, aunt, daughter and friend to others. She had a twinkle in her eye and a quick wit. She will be dearly missed by all her loved ones and friends. The funeral service for Juna Mae will be held Saturday, December 15, 2018, at 2:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Mr. Greg Key, Minister, officiating.  Musical tribute will be provided by Tony Rominger and Scott Reynolds. The graveside committal service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30–2:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to West Side Christian Church, 1307 West G Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643 in memory of Juna Mae Harmon.
