Mr. Larry Paul Smalling, 66, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. He was the son of the late Charlie and Amanda Bowers Smalling and was born in Carter County.
Mr. Smalling was a member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center and attended Horseshoe Freewill Baptist Church. He was retired from Carter County where he worked as a heavy machinery operator. He enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Smalling of the home; two sisters, Marcella Markland and Sandra Stophel, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be conducted for Mr. Smalling at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Willie Campbell officiating. Music will be provided by Eldridge Bowers, on the Dobro. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Buckles, Dusty Buckles and Mike Nidiffer. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet the family at the funeral home at 1:15 pm on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. Friends may call at the home at any time.
