Lucy Taylor Hart, 91, Johnson City, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2015, following a brief illness.
Lucy was a daughter of the late L.P. and Mary Boren Taylor.
She graduated Valedictorian of her class from Science Hill High School, then received her B.S. Degree from East Tennessee State College, graduating with highest honors.
During college and World War II, Lucy sold war bonds in support of the ongoing war effort.
Upon Graduation from E.T.S.C., she was employed with Tennessee Eastman Co. as a Chemical Lab Technician.
Lucy was a native of Johnson City, where she resided until 1951, when her late husband, Bill, was recalled to the Army Air Corp to further serve his country. She remained by his side with their children living on Air Force bases throughout the world until the conclusion of Bill’s military career, allowing them to return home in 1966.
At this time Lucy remained at home to care for her family, but was devoted to her volunteer work in healthcare, especially at the Johnson City Medical Center, where she contributed over 14,000 hours.
She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, former Sunday school teacher, and a lifelong member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution.
In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, William Keith Hart, Sr. in 2003, her sister, Jane Burdick, and her special, lifelong friend, Dorothy Roller.
She is survived by her three children, Mary Hart Crawley and husband Stan, Chattanooga, William Keith Hart, Jr. and wife Pat, and Carolyn Hart Coleman and husband Robert, all of Johnson City; eight grandchildren, Bill Ford and wife Leigh, Overland Park, KS, Jody Ford and wife Stacy, Chattanooga, Lora Hart Pacaldo and husband Phillip, Wilmington, NC, Kelly Hart Jordan and husband Chris, Johnson City, Jeff Coleman and wife Liz, Roanoke, VA, Shannon Thomsen and husband Colm, Johnson City, Christopher Coleman, Johnson City, and Adam Coleman, Chicago; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their most heartfelt “thank you” to Ivy Hall Nursing Home and all the staff for the excellent care given to our mother during her brief illness. Also, the family wishes to express their thanks to her caregivers in the home, Anna, Linda and Larry.
The graveside funeral service for Lucy will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. in the Mausoleum Chapel of Happy Valley Memorial Park, with The Reverend Hal Hutchison, officiating. Entombment will follow. Those planning to attend are requested to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 A.M. Wednesday.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 7, 2015, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home.
