Lustus “Poppy” Woods, Jr., age 81, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 from the Johnson City Medical Center. Lustus was born in Carter County to the late Lustus Woods, Sr. and Birtie Scalf Woods. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Emily Woods; his second wife, Judy Woods; a brother, J.C. Woods; and a stepchild, James Allen Street.

Lustus retired from Raytheon after 31 ½ years of service as an Electron Beam Welder and was a United States Navy veteran. He attended Rich Acres Freewill Baptist Church. Lustus attended the Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed shooting pool. He loved his granddaughter, Kadence, she was his world. He also enjoyed woodworking, growing lemon trees (he was very proud of his trees) and flowers.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Leslie Shay Woods, of Johnson City; his granddaughter, Kadence Athena Railey, of Johnson City; a sister, Margaret Harrison, of Elizabethton; and three brothers, Bobbie Woods (Oma Jean), Eugene Woods, and David Woods (Nyoka), all of Elizabethton.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to W.C. & Diane Rasnick, Delaney Teague, Judy Thompson, members of Rich Acres Free Will Baptist Church and members of the Senior Citizen’s Center for the love and care shown to Lustus.

Friends may pay their respects from 12:00 PM until 4:30 PM on Friday, April 17, 2020 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton.

A private graveside service to celebrate the life of Lustus “Poppy” Woods, Jr. will be conducted at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Reverend Kenneth Grindstaff, officiating.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center, 428 East G. Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or the Senior Group at Rich Acres Free Will Baptist Church, 1245 King Springs Road, Johnson City, TN 37601.
