Mrs. Mae Harmon Vance, 89, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, January 21, 2014, in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton.
A native of Watauga County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Monroe and Mary McGuire Harmon. She had lived most of her life in Elizabethton.
Mrs. Vance was a retired Cook from Carter County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Borderview Christian Church. In years past, she had served as a Pink Lady at Carter County Memorial Hospital.
She loved to work in her flowers and in her garden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kersey “Pat” Vance; a son: Michael Vance; one brother: Filmore Harmon; and three sisters: Martha House, Dorsey Hicks and Viola Ward.
For years Mae’s yard was a gathering place for the neighborhood children to come and play games.
Survivors include Three Sisters: Wilma Colbaugh and her husband, Herman, Elizabethton, Ruby Hicks, Granite Falls, North Carolina, and Rosa Hicks, Banner Elk, North Carolina; Her daughter-in-law: Judy Vance, Elizabethton; Her special friends: Doug & Trudy Carter, J.D. Henley and her special roommate at Life Care.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Eddie Fine officiating.
Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Scott Reynolds, Organist. Active Pallbearers will be: Joseph Greenwell, Wesley Johnson, Doug Colbaugh, Justin Colbaugh, Richard Eller and Danny Lewis.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Staff of Life Care Center for the love and care that was shown to her, also to her church family.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
