Marie Hughes, age 81, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at her residence, following an extended illness. Mrs. Hughes was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Sammy and Jose Berry Canter.
Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker and was a member of Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church. She had worked as a child care provider and loved church.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Robert L. Hughes, of the home; a daughter, Pat Patterson and husband Ralph, Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Opal Saddler, Johnson City; a niece, Laura Ann Saddler, Johnson City; two grandchildren, Trish Mullins and husband Cody, Elizabethton and Princess Blevins, Florida; great grandchildren, Noah Mullins, Savannah, Gracie and Landon Collins, Emily and Jackson Blevins, all of Elizabethton and Bruce Lee Bentley, Florida; and her special friends, Janet Clark, Dr. Lori Church and her Hospice caregivers.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Marie Hughes will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. Mark Potter and Chaplain Ed Talley, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Joy Scalf and Clarence Sheffield. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the church chapel, prior to the service on Saturday.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at 1:15 PM on Sunday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, to go in procession.
