Mary M. Addi-Layton passed away on December 21, 2013, at Willis Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was a Catholic and had her family at her side when she went home to the Lord. Mary was born July 22, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio to Ernest and Odra Potter-Rosenbeck. She graduated from St. Joseph Commercial High School in 1964. She was married at age 18 to Richard C. Addi of New York and had two children. They moved to Virginia in 1970. Mary worked at IBM in Manassas, Virginia for more than 20 years with the Federal Systems Division, until the business unit was acquired. Mary was divorced in 1992, and moved back to Dayton, Ohio in 1998. Shortly after she moved back to her childhood home she was employed by General Motors. In 1999 she met Bobby Wayne Layton and they were subsequently married on July 7, 2001. Several years later she was asked by General Motors to relocate to a new facility in Shreveport, Louisiana……from that point forward she considered Shreveport her home.
As the oldest of four children, Mary was a beacon of light for her family. She was a sibling and friend to her brothers and sister. She made many personal sacrifices through her life, always putting people she loved in a position of priority. In recent years, she looked after and cared for her 95 year old, elderly mother, until her passing in September, 2012. Mary then retired from the automaker and was planning to enjoy the benefits of her labor.
Mary had a passion for travel and seeing the world. She especially enjoyed travel with her husband and family including a recent trip to Hawaii with her now deceased brother, Donald Rosenbeck, and his wife, Janice. In addition to her love of travel, she enjoyed the music of Daniel O’Donnell and meeting others that shared a similar passion. She met many wonderful people through this shared love of music and spent hours speaking and communicating with “the ladies”.
No matter what the title…Mary Margaret, Mary, Mom, Hun, Aunt Mary, Sis, Gammy or Grandma…she will be dearly missed by us all.
Mary is survived by her husband Bobby W. Layton, her sister Judy K. Rosenbeck See and husband Jack, her brother Ernest F. (Fred) Rosenbeck, her son and his wife, Richard J. and Loretta Addi, her son Daniel S. Addi, and Jimmy Layton, Richard Layton; daughters Jenny Layton and Julie Layton. She has 10 grand-children, Shannon N. Addi, Richard (Berkley) Addi, Sherman K. Addi, Eli H. Addi, and Grace A. Layton, Drew Layton, William Layton, Alexis Layton, Chase Haines and Jeffery Haines.
