Mrs. Mary McNeal, 85, of Elizabethton, received her angel wings on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at Pine Ridge Care Center. She was a daughter of the late Earl and Susie Hopson Whitehead and was born in Washington County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Montgomery, her second husband, Ray McNeal, on September 20, 2004, and a daughter, Loretta Woods.

Mrs. McNeal was an L.P.N. who worked at Carter County Memorial Hospital and retired from Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Elizabethton and she loved to cook and read.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Beverly Buckles, and her husband, Joe, Knoxville; two sons, Vaughn Montgomery, and his wife, Teresa, Johnson City; Charles McNeal, and his wife, Lisa, TN; a step-daughter, Mary Elizabeth King, Erwin; a step-son, Roy McNeal, and his wife, Shirley, Austin, TX; thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Betty Davis, Elizabethton; and Anna Belle Whitehead, Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. McNeal will be conducted on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, Elizabethton, with Rev. Nathan Jennings officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the service.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at 10: 30 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Thursday, to go in procession to the cemetery.

Those who prefer donations in lieu of flowers may make memorials to the Alzheimer’s’ Association, Mid-South Chapter, 2020 Meadowview Park, Suite 100, Kingsport, TN, 37660.

The family would like to extend their most sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of Pine Ridge Care Center for all the love and care shown to Mary and her family during her time there.
