Maynard “Red” Campbell, age 73, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, went home to his heavenly Father on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was born on August 11, 1940 to the late Cliney Campbell and Stella Williams Campbell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers: Larry and Troy Campbell and recently by a sister Patricia Campbell Miller on November 1, 2013.
Maynard retired from Inland Container after 40 years of service. He attended Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church. He loved sports and was an avid UT fan. In his younger years he loved to hunt and fish.
Maynard is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Kathy Matherly Campbell, sons and daughters-in-law: Tim Campbell, Randy Campbell and wife Emily, Carter Campbell and Joshua Campbell. Two daughters also survive: Linda Collins and husband Junior, and Tina Reece and husband Tim. He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law: Ginger & Clarence Willis. Two brothers: Arthur (Roy) Campbell and wife Pat and Les Campbell and Connie. He is also survived by a very special friend Justin Davis.
He was a devoted “Papaw” and leaves behind eight grandchildren: Jacob Collins, Isaac Collins, Brandon Reece, Timothy Reece, Megan Reece, Jasmine Odette, Nathanal Reece, and Tosha Campbell. He held a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
The family wishes to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff of 5400 wing at the Johnson City Medical Center, The Radiology Department staff, ETSU Physicians and Mountain States Home Health. The kindness and compassion shown to Maynard and his family will never be forgotten.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, in Memorial Funeral Chapel and the service to follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Dennis Wilson and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Music will be provided by Loren Harris and Les Campbell.
Graveside and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014 in the Garden of The Last Supper at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Tim Campbell, Randy Campbell, Jacob Collins, Isaac Collins, Shawn Campbell, Clarence Willis, Brandon Reece and Timmy Reece. Honorary pallbearers are Joshua Campbell, Justin Davis, Steve Hill, Dave Burleson, Tim Reece, George Stevenson and Drew Whitehead.
Friends may visit anytime at the home at 104 West K. Street, Elizabethton, TN.
Family and friends are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 am. Thursday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at mfc@chartertn.net.
